Dr. Jane Armer, PhD, RN

Dr. Jane Armer, PhD, RN, Professor, Sinclair School of Nursing, University of Missouri-Columbia, and Director, Nursing Research, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center (EFCC), has conducted research in the area of lymphedema prevalence, signs and symptoms, symptom management, anthropometric measurement, and quality of life among breast cancer survivors; and fatigue among persons with lymphedema. She is currently the Principal Investigator on a multi-year RO1 study funded by National Institute for Nursing Research (National Institutes of Health) which follows breast cancer survivors prospectively from pre-surgery through 30 months post-op to assess limb volume changes over time. Dr. Armer has published 34 research articles in the refereed literature, 14 of which are focused on lymphedema, and has lectured internationally on the topic of lymphedema.

She received training as a lymphedema therapist through the Lerner Institute on Lymphatic Studies in 1998. She has appointments to the following organizations: the National Lymphedema Network Medical Advisory Committee (NLN-MAC) where she serves as chair of the NLN-MAC Research Committee and is a member of the editorial and program-planning committees; the board of directors for the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA); the Oncology Nursing Society Research Advisory Committee; and two NCI-funded national clinical trials cooperative groups, CALG-B and ACOSOG, where she is a co-investigator in the development of research protocols focused on lymphedema risk-reduction in breast cancer survivors and where she serves as vice-chair of the CALG-B symptom intervention subcommittee.
